Los Angeles Lakers trade rumors 2016: Jordan Clarkson for Jahlil Okafor impossible

(Reuters/Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports)The Los Angeles Lakers trading Jordan Clarkson to the Philadelphia 76ers for Jahlil Okafor is unlikely happening.

The Los Angeles Lakers are linked to trade rumors involving their young talents, which include Jordan Clarkson. One of the potential deals is sending him to the Philadelphia 76ers for Jahlil Okafor. However, that may not work in favor of the purple and gold franchise.

In a report by The Inquisitr, it was mentioned that the Lakers will unlikely benefit in the said trade deal.

First, the Lakers just inked Clarkson to a four-year pact worth $50 million, which means they want him to stay. The 24-year-old  has showed great promise in his first two seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and is continuously developing.

Second, Los Angeles already addressed a need at center when Timofey Mozgov was signed earlier in free agency.

Mozgov is expected to start for Los Angeles, and if Okafor is acquired, he is getting the backup role or move to power forward. If the latter happens, this could signify that the Lakers "are already giving up on Julius Randle," according to The Inquisitr.

Last season, Randle was one of the bright spots for the Lakers. Seeing action in 81 games (60 starts) at the power forward position, he was averaging double-doubles. Similar with Clarkson, the 21-year-old is evolving and this might be hindered if Okafor arrives in Los Angeles.

All of these mean the Lakers are unlikely to complete a deal with Philly to add Okafor. They are expected to stick with their young core and hope this brings success in the future.

If the Lakers are not winning in the swap, the Sixers will if it happens because the deal solves one of their main roster issues, which is the crowded situation at the no. 4 and 5 positions. Along with this, they are going to have a budding guard in Clarkson who will strengthen their backcourt.
