Los Angeles Lakers trade rumors 2016: Nick Young still an expendable this off-season?

(Reuters/Brad Rempel/USA TODAY Sports)The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to bid farewell to veteran guard Nick Young this off-season.

It looks like the Los Angeles Lakers are going to exert great effort in their attempt to part ways with veteran guard Nick Young, who they are reportedly trying to still trade this off-season.

However, it seems trading Young is not the only option for Los Angeles since the franchise is also considering a buyout of his contract.

These possibilities were discussed by Bleacher Report's Kevin Ding recently.

Ding said in an interview, as transcribed by Lakers Nation, "I would frankly be surprised if Nick Young is on the Lakers' roster at the start of the season. They've been trying to trade him for a while. They're still trying to trade him. They are willing to even buy him out if necessary to move on."

This is bad news for Young who just days ago revealed that he is patching things up with teammate D'Angelo Russell, months after they were both involved in an off-court issue.

When Young joined the Lakers in 2013, the organization was starting to flunk in the Western Conference. Despite this, the 31-year-old provided good numbers and was one of the main options on offense. That all changed last season when former Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams signed with the team and the younger Jordan Clarkson started to emerge .

With Clarkson and Williams taking almost all the minutes at the shooting guard position, Young became the odd man out. In 54 games (two starts), he averaged only 7.3 points (career-low) and 1.8 rebounds in 19.1 minutes per contest.

The Lakers are yet to comment about the rumors stating they are trying to part ways with Young. But if it is true, trading him would not be that easy, especially with the numbers he had last season and his performance. Maybe that is why they are also looking at the option of buying out his contract.
