MacBook Air 2016 release date: Apple may no longer update the Air; to focus more on iPad Pro

(Apple)MacBook Air 2016 may be canceled by Apple.

Is it the end of Apple's laptop line MacBook Air? There are rumors circulating online that the Air has been canceled by the Cupertino-based tech firm.

According to reports, there might be no MacBook Air release this year or ever. Apparently, the Cupertino-based tech giant will no longer be making a new iteration for its thinnest laptops. It is eyeing on replacing it with the newer laptop series, the MacBook.

Mashable also predicts that there is no need for a newer Apple MacBook Air. First, the MacBook line of laptop, which was introduced last year, has similar features to what an Air could offer. Apple's powerhouse laptops, the MacBook Pro line, have become thinner over the years, which would make the thinner option MacBook Air redundant.

The Telegraph reported last year that Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted that the company is focusing on developing more on its iPad Pros as this could be the better option than the laptops or desktops.

During last year's iPad Pro launch, Cook said, "Yes, the iPad Pro is a replacement for a notebook or a desktop for many, many people. They will start using it and conclude they no longer need to use anything else, other than their phones."

However, according to reports, if the MacBook Air gets an update, the rumored specs include a jaw-dropping 5K resolution display. Its slim and thin body may be able to power a new display that could reach an impressive 5120 x 2880 pixel resolution on a 15-inch screen. The newest iteration could also feature wireless charging. It will be run on AM Polaris 11 GPU to boost its power capacity and to be more efficient. Apple may even add a Touch ID fingerprint scanner, plus an OLED touch bar.

If the MacBook Air 2016 pushes through, the rumored launch is this coming September.
