MacBook Air 2016 release date, specs rumors: New laptop to launch Oct. 24 with 5K display

(Apple)The MacBook Air 2016 is expected to launch this month.

Apple fans are eagerly awaiting the launch of new products, including the likes of the iMac 2016 and the MacBook Pro 2016. But apart from those two, the MacBook Air 2016 is also grabbing headlines, and it is believed that the unveiling of all three devices will land on Oct. 24.

According to reports, the MacBook Air 2016 will launch alongside the MacBook Pro 2016 and the new iMac on the last week of October. This prediction is apparently based on Apple's launch history. An event is reportedly scheduled to take place on the said date.

An October launch also makes sense because the holidays are drawing near. This means Apple needs to stock up on new offerings for the gift-giving season.

As previously stated, Director for Tablet and Notebook PCs at IHS Markit Technology Rhoda Alexander also indicated that production for the laptops already started in the second quarter, which means an October unveiling is quite likely.

But what can Apple enthusiasts expect from the new MacBook Air?

Not unlike many of its offerings, Apple is taking thinness to a whole new level with the MacBook Air 2016. The new laptop is expected to be the thinnest of the entire lineup and is also said to be more compact.

Under the hood, it is believed that the MacBook Air 2016 will not come with Intel's latest Kaby Lake processor due to the time frame of its production and release. It is unknown whether Apple will utilize the Kaby Lake's predecessor, the Skylake processor. It has also been said that the new laptop will sport AMD's Radeon RX 400 graphics card, sparking speculations that it may be ripe for gaming.

Apart from that, a trackpad for the Apple Pen, which will be sold separately, is also expected. The new laptop is also believed to have 8 GB of RAM, a USB Type-C port, and 5K display.

Since the Cupertino tech giant has yet to confirm these rumors, readers should take this news with a grain of salt for now.
