MacBook Air 2016 release date: Apple laptop line being discontinued?

(Apple)Have people seen the last of the MacBook Air lineup?

The MacBook Air 2016 is probably most notable for just how little people actually know about it, and there may be a good reason for that, albeit one that people waiting for the rumored laptop may not want to hear.

Recent rumors surrounding the largely unknown Apple laptop have begun to indicate that new details are not emerging possibly because the line itself is being discontinued.

The laptop market is pretty crowded as it is, and it's not like Apple will suddenly be exiting this particular arena of products completely even if they choose to discontinue the MacBook Air lineup.

Still, the lack of news regarding the rumored laptop is also far from confirmation that it has been shelved entirely. Apple typically does not share new information about their products until they have officially launched it and that could very well be what's happening to this year's MacBook Air.

Earlier rumors from the first half of the year put forth different possible release dates for the laptop, with some indicating that it could be launched in March, just like last year's model, or possibly even during the WWDC.

To this point, those earlier rumors have not led to anything, but there still seems to be more than enough time for Apple to launch the new laptop if that is indeed their plan.

According to Tech Radar, if a new MacBook unveiling will take place this year, then it will likely be carried out in September along with the official launch of the iPhone 7.

If the laptop still isn't launched by September, then the early part of next year may provide the moment of truth, as continued absence through that stretch of time could be an indicator that the lineup has been shelved.

More news about the MacBook Air 2016 should be made available in the near future.
