MacBook Air 2016 release date rumors: Apple likely to discontinue the MacBook Air series

(Apple)Inset is the 11-inch and 13-inch macBook Air 2015. Rumor has it that Apple has decided to discontinue the macBook Air series.

While faithful Apple users await September as it is the usual time when the Cupertino tech vendor unveils its upcoming devices, there are recent reports stating that one of their much-hyped notebooks, the MacBook Air, won't be seeing the light of day after almost a decade of subtle changes.

The reason behind the rumored move from Apple is that the company will concentrate more on their other notebook series, which is the MacBook Pro. In fact, in previous reports, there were several Apple stores that were giving away huge discounts on selected models of the MacBook Pro, which is why fans assumed that the company will be unveiling a new MacBook Pro in the market.

Apple users may recall that the company made an internal revamp on the current MacBook Air mid-March of last year that only showcased a Broadwell chipset from Intel, together with an Intel high-definition graphics 6000 and a Thunderbolt 2 upgrade. Moreover, almost four months ago, the larger model of the notebook was tweaked with 8 GB random access memory, which some analysts consider as a bland move. Another thing to note is the absence of the much-requested retina display that made the notebook even more unfavorable to users, even though the prices for these left behind ultraportables were slashed to $900 for the 11-inch MacBook Air and $1,000 for the 13-inch version.

Meanwhile, the MacBook Pro is said to be launched this September with major changes within its specs. Previous reports also suggest that the 2016 MacBook Pro will finally have Apple's latest operating system named the macOS Sierra, together with iPhone's SIRI. Another feature rumored to be included with the new MacBook Pro would be an OLED touch bar which is highly requested by most users.

It seems that the future looks quite grim for the MacBook Air. Nonetheless, there are still few who are hopeful that Apple will still push through in continuing the Air lineup.
