MacBook Air 2016 release date rumors: Major update may not come this year, or at all

(Apple)The days of the MacBook Air receiving major upgrades may be done

People have been waiting to see the new upgrades included in the MacBook Air 2016 pretty much for the entirety of this year, and yet they have not seen anything thus far. This prompts many to speculate about the future of the Apple laptop lineup.

So, should people still expect to see a completely new version of the MacBook Air arrive anytime soon?

Unfortunately, the answer to that question is known only to Apple and it's very likely that they will continue to keep it to themselves.

But that doesn't stop people from trying to figure out the answer to that particular question.

Rumors old and new have already put forth the possibility that the laptop lineup is just about done, meaning it may no longer be in line to receive those hefty upgrades that it once did.

It's worth noting that the MacBook Air lineup did receive a very minor update back in April in the form of a memory upgrade, but that was the extent of it.

Unless Apple does something completely unexpected, that may be all people get in terms of an update for the laptop lineup for this year and perhaps for the coming years as well.

More than a full calendar year has already passed since Apple last updated the MacBook Air in a big way, and that can't be a good sign for people who are still hoping that the laptop lineup receives annual upgrades moving forward.

Still, that does not mean that people have already seen the last of this laptop lineup.

In a recent article, Mashable tech correspondent Christina Warren predicted that the MacBook Air lineup will continue to hang around and will still be made available to consumers even if the days of getting major upgrades for it may already be over.

Moving forward, perhaps people should expect the MacBook Air upgrades to come in the form of slight tweaks similar to what was issued back in April.

More news about the MacBook Air should be made available in the future.
