Apple, Inc., is ending the year with a bang through the launch of iPhone 6, iOS 8 and the "coming soon" OS X Yosemite. This has left many wondering if there will be any new things Macbook-related such as a Macbook Air Retina release date as some rumors have suggested.

Apple's laptop business has grown steadily over the years even with the emergence of tablets and smartphones. One of the most sought-after from the Macbook lineup is the thin and lightweight Macbook Air.

Rumors mills claim that the Cupertino-based tech titan will introduce a new breed of this model.

Bolstered with Retina Display and Intel's wonder chip Core M, the new Macbook Air Retina will easily elevate the competition and standards to a higher ground.

It can be remembered that Microsoft took a shot at Macbook Air when they introduced Surface Pro 3 in the market earlier this year. While the tablet-laptop hybrid looked promising, it has struggled since.

When the Macbook Air Retina comes out Microsoft will have an even tougher work cut out for them.

BGR also mentioned three possible variants of the Macbook Air Retina specs – an 11", 13" and the newest kid on the block, a 12" model.

Aside from power and display, Apple is reportedly gambling on playing with different colors for the 12" model.

Mashable cited the following colors: Slate gray, silver and gold.

Speculations have also escalated when Apple slashed $100 across all Macbook Air, which many believe was a way to clear the path for new things to arrive.

Ecumenical News earlier mentioned reports that the Macbook Air Retina release date was pushed back to 2015 due to processor supplier constraints in Taiwan.

At present, Macbook Pro is the only Apple notebook model that comes with Retina Display and currently sells with the starting price $1299.

The latest Macbook Air has a tag price of $899 to $999.
