The world's first commercial jetpack is set to arrive in 2016 in the form of the Martin Jetpack. Making the news official is the Martin Aircraft Company, who stated that first responders will be using them by next year and announced that the general public will be able to buy personal versions in 2017.

The commercial availability of the jetpack was recently made public on the Martin Aircraft Company website and not long after, the news was already trending worldwide. Several news outlets even described how the jetpack has been showcased at the Paris Air Show which just concluded last month. The show featured an interactive exhibit, where people stepped into a stationary version of the jetpack and then used the Oculus Rift VR headset, which allowed them to experience what it feels like to actually fly with one.

The current model of the Martin Jetpack is named the P12. It can run at a speed of 46 miles per hour, which can go up to 900 meters in the air. In addition, it features vertical takeoff and landing, which means that any structure, including a rooftop, can be used as a launch pad. The manufacturer even pointed out that the ability to take off and land in tight spaces will come in handy for first responders who will receive the Martin Jetpack in the latter half of 2016.

The Martin Jetpack can also stay in the air for 30 minutes, which is much longer than what other jetpacks are capable of providing. Its 200 hp engine runs on fuel, which drives the two fans. Other features of the jetpack focus more on providing security to the person using it. It has a ballistic parachute and an undercarriage, which is extremely useful when landing.

The personal version of the Martin Jetpack will become available in 2017 and will reportedly come with with a price tag of $150,000.
