BioWare, a division of Electronic Arts, is doing a complete re-mastering of the Mass Effect series, which will most likely be available for PS4 and Xbox One next year.

The developers presented a gameplay preview of the upcoming 'Mass Effect 4' at E3 2014.

The trailer depicts stunning visuals and extremely demanding requirements for graphics and processing, which could be a reason the gaming community expects the game to be exclusive for PS4 and Xbox One consoles.

No one from BioWare has confirmed any date of release, but Community Manager Chris Priestly made it clear that Mass Effect 4 story will have nothing to do with Shepard.

"We have already said that the Commander Shepard trilogy is over and that the next [Mass Effect] game will not feature him/her. That is the only detail you have on the game. I see people saying 'Well, they'll have to pick a canon ending.' No, because the game does not have to come after. Or before. Or off to the side. Or with characters you know. Or yaddayaddayadda."

BioWare has also taken over the job of developing the spinoff of Mass Effect from its original developers, BioWare Edmonton.

Under a new team, the game will introduce new protagonists and enemies, and has ruled out any possibility of links to the past adventures or direct continuation of the Commander's story.

Although the krogans and humans are bound to return, based on the video preview, it looks like some of Shepard's other companions were also taken out.

The setting of the game is an entirely new region of space, which excited fans dissatisfied with Mass Effect 3.

Back in December, BioWare Edmonton and Montreal GM Aaron Flynn shared how the development of the game is pacing well.

"Great time playing the next Mass Effect game in Montreal," he teased. "Ambitious. Beautiful. Fresh but recognizable. And fun."

Meanwhile, BioWare will be releasing Dragon Age: Inquisition in October, the fantasy counterpart of Mass Effect.
