Meizu MX5 release date, specs, features, news: all-metal body unveiled in live image; 6-inch MX5 Pro gets certified in China

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Meizu has been reportedly planning to release another flagship device, the MX5, which had been recently leaked online in photos and a video, revealing some of its key features. Now a live image of the yet-to-be-announced handset has surfaced, showing the device with an all-metal body, confirming its earlier rumored metal unibody design.

The upcoming Meizu MX5 is rumored to arrive with a 5.5-inch QHD display (2560 x 1440 pixel resolution and an atypical 5:3 aspect ratio). The Meizu MX5 is expected to be powered by a MediaTek MT6795 chip, paired with 4GB of RAM. The most striking feature of the Meizu MX5 will be its huge 41MP camera with a Nokia PureView sensor that can shoot super slow-motion 1080p video at 480fps. The Meizu MX5 is rumored to arrive with a biometric sensor embedded in the physical home button.

The new live photo of the Meizu MX5 leaked directly from China shows the phone's metal body, the position of the camera and LED flash, along with Meizu's logo at the bottom of the battery cover. The image confirms that the Meizu MX5 will have a metal body, instead of a glass back seen in the earlier leaked images of its larger variant, Meizu MX5 Pro.

The Meizu MX5 Pro seems to have just received certification in China, as the Meizu M578CE has been found listed on China Quality Certification Center's website, and could be the larger version of the MX5. According to the specifications of the Meizu MX5 Pro listed on the Chinese website, the device will feature a 6-inch Quad HD display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution. The phablet will be powered by a 64-bit octa-core Samsung Exynos 7420 processor, paired with 4 GB RAM, and support 4G LTE (TD-LTE networks). Meizu's upcoming device will sport a 20-megapixel camera, a fingerprint scanner, a 4000 mAh battery, and will ship with Android Lollipop pre-installed, along with Meizu's Flyme UI installed on top.

Meizu is expected to officially unveil the MX5 in the next few weeks, followed by the MX5 Pro later in July.
