Miami Heat trade rumors 2016: LA Clippers' Chris Paul taking talent to South Beach?

The Miami Heat went from Eastern Conference favorites to a rebuilding franchise in just one off-season, although team president Pat Riley might turn things around and complete a deal to add a new star in point guard Chris Paul.

(Reuters/Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports)The Miami Heat are reportedly eyeing a trade to acquire Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul.

Dwyane Wade's departure is still the biggest setback for Miami. The Heat lost their superstar who they had since 2003 and who helped them win three titles. However, if there is a man who can make drastic moves in an instant, Riley is the guy.

In a report by Yibada.com, sources say Riley is "intrigued" with using point guard Goran Dragic to trade for Paul.

This is not the first time Dragic was included in a trade rumor this off-season. He was already linked to a number of teams, but so far, he remains to be part of the Heat.

For now, a Paul-Dragic switch is unlikely since one is an All-Star who leads his team.

Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers plans to keep last season's core intact and that means making Paul stay.

But Paul may enter free agency next year, and if the Clippers think there is a strong chance of this happening, they might want to get the best for his value instead of just letting the 31-year-old walk away.

Dragic is not on the same level as Paul and his numbers are a bit distant from the latter, but he is an efficient playmaker and a decent contributor. If the Clippers push for this swap, what they are doing is assuring the starting point guard position for the next few years. The Slovenian playmaker's current pact will expire following the 2019-20 season.

The winners in this possible exhange are the Heat because they are getting Paul, even if his run with the squad lasts for only a season.

Paul will make Miami relevant again and his veteran leadership could help the younger guys on the roster.
