Miami Heat trade rumors 2016: Hassan Whiteside to Celtics for package deal?

As the slump continues for the Miami Heat, they might soon choose to rebuild and this starts with trading some of their best assets. Currently, center Hassan Whiteside has the greatest value and one of the possible suitors for him are the Boston Celtics.

When the Heat go for rebuilding, it is likely that one of their goals is to remain competitive while undergoing the process. Boston has players that can help them with this and that is why it is viewed as a potential destination for Whiteside.

In a trade scenario, the Heat are sending Whiteside to the Celtics for Amir Johnson, Jonas Jerebko, Terry Rozier and a 2017 first-round pick (came from the Brooklyn Nets).

Quantity-wise, this may seem unfair for the Celtics but it is a great deal overall for the squads involved.

For the Heat, they are getting replacements for Whiteside in Johnson and Jerebko. Both are quality big men and can contribute efficiently on both ends if given the minutes.

Meanwhile, Rozier could improve Miami's backcourt and might be the new backup of main playmaker Goran Dragić.

The pick is huge for the Heat mainly because they are rebuilding and may use it in different ways that benefit them.

Boston, on the other hand, finally gets that "impact player" it has been looking for these past few months.

Whiteside with Isaiah Thomas and Al Horford are the players that will be the main core of the Celtics.

This switch is feasible but the Heat may want to hold on to Whiteside because he assures them that they are not starting from scratch if the present campaign fails and they rebuild. With him, they have a player who they can build around on moving forward. There is no longer a need to search for a solid piece that will be the new foundation of what they are trying to build.
