Microsoft Surface Book 2 release date set for June 2016 or later this year

Upon announcing the Surface Book last year, Microsoft witnessed how the device inspired a lot of positive reactions from users who waited in line to buy it from stores. Since then, however, the device has been hit with a number of bugs and software issues that have dampened the enthusiasm for it. This has left users wanting a second-generation device with improved features and importantly without the issues that the first edition has been plagued with, and there are indications that it will arrive later this year.

The current rumor about the Surface Book 2 points toward the device arriving in June. Importantly, this particular rumor seems to hint that the Surface Book 2 will arrive along with the Surface Pro 5. However, this rumor is not based on a particular bit of information that emerged from the supply chain so it is hard to verify.

Meanwhile, it has become clear that since the Surface Book released, it has been plagued with power management problems. Many industry analysts have pointed out that this issue may have resulted from the Skylake processor being used on the Surface Book. Since the problems were made known to Microsoft, the company has struggled to fix them, but it only managed to solve the sleep/wake issue last month.

Therefore, it is likely that Microsoft wants to prevent these problems reoccurring in the upcoming Surface Book 2 and will choose not to use the Skylake processors. Instead, there are indications that the company will wait for Intel's upcoming processor to be available. This particular processor has been dubbed "Kaby Lake" and it is expected to be ready by the end of the year.

If Microsoft is indeed waiting for the Kaby Lake processors, then the Surface Book 2 could release later in the year or sometime during the beginning of 2017. The other feature rumored to arrive with the Surface Book 2 is an improved hinge, which does not leave a gap when the device is folded.
