Microsoft Surface Phone release date, rumors: Leaked images surface online

(Microsoft official website)The Microsoft Surface family has received positive reviews, giving rise to the speculation that a Microsoft Surface Phone could be in development.

Microsoft has had a great 2016, all thanks to its Surface line of devices. It proved once more to the world that it is indeed a walking behemoth in the world of technology, although there is one domain still that it hasn't conquered, and that's the mobile phone arena. This is a dilemma that the rumored Microsoft Surface Phone is hoping to fix.

A lot of hype has been placed on the unreleased device, especially with the myriad of speculations surrounding it. Some people think that it could potentially support Win32 apps, making it emulate the same processes seen in laptops and desktops. This rumor alone was enough to keep people going, until what appears to be a first glimpse to the device surfaced online.

Nokia Power User was able to grab a leaked photo that surfaced in China, bearing the Surface Phone name. The leakster showed many shots of the alleged Microsoft phone, looking rather sleek and elegant. There is no way to test the authenticity of the photos, although it no doubt has sparked even more interest in the unreleased phone from Microsoft.

The Microsoft Surface Phone is wrapped in so many mystery, making it even more enticing for tech junkies. Reports speculate that it could run on the latest Windows 10 OS and is likely powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. Judging on the alleged images, it seems it will also have a 3.5-mm headphone jack with a USB Type-C port where the speakers can be found.

So is the phone coming anytime soon? Maybe not. Considering there are rumors that Nokia is launching new smartphones this year, the plan for a 2017 release may be pushed back to give way. This is not because of competition; rather, one can recall that Nokia has been acquired by Microsoft in 2013, thus it would greatly divide consumer dollars.

With all the speculations, Microsoft fans will have to wait and see.
