Microsoft Surface Phone, Surface Pro 5 release date: Devices to launch simultaneously at MWC?

(Microsoft)Microsoft is rumored to unveil the Surface Phone and the Surface Pro 5 simultaneously at the MWC in February 2017.

Microsoft has yet to make any official announcements regarding the release date of the highly rumored Surface Phone and the Surface Pro 5. Recent speculations, however, point to an early 2017 release for both devices.

It has been said that the Surface Phone and the Surface Pro 5 could be making their debut simultaneously at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, in February 2017. Microsoft has neither confirmed nor denied these rumors as of late, but fans are undoubtedly remaining hopeful for the best. With Microsoft proving its technological prowess with the Surface Book, tech enthusiasts can't wait to see what the Redmond-based company has in store with the Surface Phone and the Surface Pro 5.

Rumor has it that the Surface Pro 5 will have the Kaby Lake processor as opposed to the Skylake processor. This makes sense because Intel's latest offering is top-notch and certainly fits well with Microsoft's repertoire. Moreover, it is suspected that the Surface Pro 5 will arrive with a Surface Pen, as well as a USB-C port.

As for the Surface Phone, according to Phone Arena, a source called Nokia Power User has shed some light on what fans can expect from the device. It will apparently have either 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM, as Microsoft has two Surface Phone prototypes in the works. Display-wise, it will have a 5.5-inch Quad HD screen. Glance and ClearBlack screens are also two features that are expected to make it to the Surface Phone. It should be noted that these two features were previously part of the company's Lumia lineup.

Under the hood, the Surface Phone is said to sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, the most recent in the lineup of processors. Additionally, its operating system could be a Windows 10 Mobile Redstone 3. Microsoft is supposedly collaborating with fellow tech giant HP to produce the upcoming Surface Phone.

Since nothing can be known for sure at this point, though, readers should take this news with a grain of salt.
