Microsoft Surface Pro 4 news and rumors: Microsoft may phase out device after this edition

There have been several rumors that tech giant, Microsoft is planning to phase out the devices which have not been performing well. One of these devices is the Surface Pro 4, which rumors suggest is going to be last tablet-laptop hybrid that the company will release.

The reason for its rumored cancellation is because even though the lineup has been moderately successful in the market, it had not turned out to be as popular as the iPad from Apple.

The lackluster sales of the Surface Pro 3 have left many speculating that the upcoming model could be the last time Microsoft upgrades the tablet-laptop hybrid line. However, others have been quick to point out that Microsoft seemed happy with the success of the Surface Pro 3, compared to the earlier version which performed rather poorly.

Earlier this year, during its earnings statement, Microsoft had indicated that sales for the Surface Pro 3 were up to $1.1 billion which constituted a 24 percent increase over the figures from the previous year. This increase in revenue, as mentioned by Microsoft, was largely fuelled by the success of Surface Pro 3 and its accessories. In addition, Chief financial officer, Amy Hood, stated that the "Surface Pro 3 sales are three times over what the Surface Pro 2 earned."

However, until now, Microsoft has not yet released any details about how many Surface Pro 3 units have been sold and whether this figure is lower than what the company expected. Despite Microsoft's optimistic statement, others insist that Microsoft might scrap the entire lineup after it releases the upcoming model which many expect will land on July 29, the same time the company releases the new OS, Windows 10.

Despite having no indication from Microsoft about the future of the Surface Pro lineup, the company is making sure that the Surface Pro reaches a bigger market by focusing on increasing the variety available to consumers. It recently brought out a cheaper variant, the core i7 model which sells at $1,299. This particular Surface Pro 3 model has 8 GB RAM and 128 GB of onboard storage.
