Nintendo executives are already making plans for the entry of Minecraft to 3DS and Wii U.

Heads for Internal Development teams had spoken to gaming site Kotaku and mentioned their intention of developing something for the megahit sandbox indie game and making it appeal to the untapped market of gamers in Japan.

Shinya Takahashi, Nintendo's lead for Software Planning and Development (SPD), opened up on the idea of Minecraft gracing 3DS and Wii U.

"What's interesting is that, in Japan, Minecraft is not popular in the way it is in the U.S. and Europe, so we've also thought that, if we were able to do a partnership like that, it might bring opportunity to help make Minecraft more popular in Japan."

He added, "We've always thought internally that using the [Wii U] GamePad would probably make for a Minecraft that's very easy to play. And, of course, if we were to do something with Minecraft on the 3DS, similarly we would probably do it where it would be easier to play and could probably reach a lot of kids."

E3 passed without any signs of the blocky visual game entering the turf of Nintendo, leaving many fans of both the game and the console disappointed.

Nintendo is the only console in the market today that can provide the touch-based mobile appeal and stick control at the same time.

Minecraft was released in 2011 and has appeared in several platforms since then, but not with Nintendo systems.

It's a phenomenon that is present in significant platforms such as mobile devices, PS3 and Xbox 360. The game is confirmed to release for PS4, Vita and Xbox One in August.

In December, Minecraft creator Markus Persson a.k.a. Notch addressed the likelihood of the game being available in 3DS and Wii U, and mentioned that he is not aware of any plans just yet.
