Moto X 3rd Gen release date, specs, rumors: 5.2 inch QHD screen, Snapdragon 808 SoC and 16MP camera in leaked specs sheet

The second-generation Moto X is now almost seven months old and Motorola has been widely expected to release its successor, dubbed Moto X 3rd Gen, sometime later this year. But no details were available about the internal hardware and specifications of the third generation Moto X. Now a new leaked specs sheet has provided complete technical details of the upcoming third generation Moto X.

According to the leaked specs sheet, the new Moto X will sport a 5.2 inch screen with QHD resolution, similar to the one featured in the Verizon-bound Droid Turbo launched in October 2014. The new Moto X will reportedly run the latest Android Lollipop version 5.1.1, which was released by Google for Nexus 7 models and Nexus 10. The specs sheet further reveals that the third generation Moto X will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 808 chip, paired with a massive 4GB RAM.

This contradicts earlier speculation that the new Moto X would be powered by Snapdragon 810 SoC after Motorola and Qualcomm had recently confirmed that a new Moto flagship smartphone featuring a Snapdragon 810 processor would be introduced this year. The Snapdragon 810 processor has been witnessing some overheating issues in other handsets, which could have made Motorola choose the Snapdragon 808 chip over the 810 one to power the third generation Moto X.

According to the leaked specs sheet, the new Moto X would also bring an improvement in terms of camera resolutions over its predecessor, with a 5 megapixel front-camera and a 16 megapixel rear camera, as against a 2 megapixel and 13 megapixel camera, respectively in the 2014 Moto X model. The third generation Moto X will have an internal storage capacity of 32GB/64GB, and pack a 3280mAh battery.

Rick Osterloh, Motorola's President, had earlier confirmed that the company is trying "to stay on a roughly annual cycle for all of our products, including Moto X." Since the previous Moto X models were introduced in August and September, respectively, there is now a good chance that the third generation Moto X will be launched around those same months this year as well.
