Moto X 3rd Gen release date, specs, rumors: three new Motorola Android smartphones coming in 2015, according to leaks

The second-generation Moto X is now almost eight months old and Motorola has been widely expected to release its successor, dubbed Moto X 3rd Gen, sometime later this year. Just recently, a new leaked specs sheet had provided complete technical details of the upcoming third generation Moto X. But it now appears that Motorola is working on three new Android handsets, after a Reddit user posted the model numbers of new Motorola devices being tested, out of which one or all could be the 3rd generation Moto X.

According to the specs sheet leaked earlier, the new Moto X would sport a 5.2 inch screen with QHD resolution and run the latest Android Lollipop version 5.1.1. The specs sheet had further revealed that the third generation Moto X would be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 808 chip, paired with a massive 4GB RAM. The new Moto X is also expected to sport a 5 megapixel front-camera and a 16 megapixel rear camera, as against a 2 megapixel and 13 megapixel camera, respectively in the 2014 Moto X model. The third generation Moto X is likely to have an internal storage capacity of 32GB/64GB, and pack a 3280mAh battery.

But according to a Reddit user, Motorola could launch at least three new Android smartphones, which were discovered in his "analytics system", going by the model numbers XT1578, XT1585, and XT192A. All the three devices originated in Chicago, where the U.S. company's headquarters is based, and reportedly run Android 5.1 with 2K Quad HD displays, and are being tested on Verizon Wireless' network. Some believe that the three handsets could be next-gen Motorola devices for 2015 — the Moto E, Moto G, and Moto X, while others are assuming that the XT192A could be the Moto X (2015), while the XT1578 and XT1585 are Moto X (2015) variants or prototypes being tested.

Rick Osterloh, Motorola's President, had earlier confirmed that the company is trying "to stay on a roughly annual cycle for all of our products, including Moto X." Since the previous Moto X models were introduced in August and September, respectively, there is now a good chance that the third generation Moto X will be launched around those same months this year as well.
