Moto X Play vs. iPhone 6 Plus: Motorola phablet is kinder on the wallet and has the specs to match the iPhone 6 Plus

The iPhone 6 Plus is one of the best selling phablets but it sure will be meeting a lot of competition as Motorola just released the Moto X Play, a budget phablet with a massive battery capacity. Here is how these two devices compare.

Design

The iPhone 6 Plus is unbeatable when it comes to design as it has a full metal body with curved edges. It also has a fingerprint sensor, a feature not present on its competitor. It is available in three colors, gold, silver and space gray.

As for the Moto X Play, it comes with almost the same customization options as its bigger sibling, the Moto X Style. Users can simply go to the Moto Maker website to choose from the different materials available for the back panel, as well as from the wide range of colors available for the front panel.

Display

The Moto X Play has a capacitive screen measuring 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 403 pixels per inch. As for the iPhone 6 Plus, it has an IPS LCD screen measuring 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 401 pixels per inch.

Specs

As for hardware, the iPhone 6 Plus was released last year so it lags behind newer devices including the Moto X Play. The iPhone 6 Plus comes with an Apple A8 chipset, a Cyclone CPU with two cores clocked at 1.4 GHz and a PowerVR GX6450 GPU while the Moto X Play has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset along with an octa-core CPU comprised of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7 GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.0 GHz and an Adreno 405 GPU.

Memory

The Moto X Play has an advantage over the iPhone 6 Plus as the latter does not come with a memory slot. The memory slot on the Moto X Play can be used to add up to 128 GB of external storage. As for RAM, the iPhone 6 Plus only has 1 GB while its competitor has 2 GB.

Camera

There is a 21 megapixel rear camera on the Moto X Play while the iPhone 6 Plus has an 8 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization.

Price

The Moto X Play's price has yet to be announced but it could cost around half the price of an unlocked flagship smartphone. As for the iPhone 6 Plus with 16 GB, it costs $299 with a two-year contract.
