Following the release of Android 5.0 for the 2014 Moto X Pure Edition just a few weeks after Nexus devices received the update, Motorola has already begun testing Android 5.1 for the second generation Moto X Pure Edition.

Similar to the Nexuses, Motorola has always kept its devices up to date. The company had shipped its Moto E Second Generation at a low price with new features and better specifications, running on the Android Lollipop version 5.0. Motorola has now begun sending out a soak test for Android 5.1 Lollipop on all second generation Moto X Pure Edition devices purchased directly from the company. Motorola has posted the changelog of the soak test on its customer support portal, indicating that it will soon be releasing the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the Moto X (2nd gen).

According to release notes posted by Motorola, the Moto X (2nd gen) will benefit from various improvements and performance enhancements due to the Android 5.1 Lollipop update, including camera enhancements and Device Protection feature.

Moto X users will be able to experience improved low-light camera shots and better responsiveness of the front-facing camera's viewfinder, while the Device Protection feature will ensure that the user's device remains locked in case it is stolen or misplaced and can be unlocked only after signing in with the related Google account.

The stock update will also improve stability and provide better control over notifications. There will also be an improvement in Ambient Display, where users will have to swipe a bit more to reduce accidental interactions. The Android 5.1 Lollipop will also provide important bug fixes resulting from the earlier update. With the soak test already underway, it should take a few weeks for the update of the Pure Edition unlocked version to roll out first, followed by the carrier variants.
