NBA trade rumors: Mike Conley likely to stay in Memphis Grizzlies with proper tweaks

The season is over for Mike Conley, though there is a possibility that it could be his last time wearing the Memphis Grizzlies jersey as well. But this only happens if the star guard jumps ship and signs with another team. Conley is set to become a free agent this Summer and several teams are hot on his tail.

Conley was forced to sit out towards the end of the Grizzlies season and such could be a negotiating standpoint for other teams. But just the same, the Grizzlies are not about to hand Conley out on a silver platter. And Conley seems to be fine with the idea.

It comes as no surprise that Conley prefers to stay on in Memphis. He has been there since day one of his NBA career, though he wants something from the Grizzlies first.

Despite being one of the favorites this season, the Grizzlies failed to live up to expectations. A lot of that happened because the team saw major injuries affect its key players. Aside from Conley, the team also lost Marc Gasol, who ironically was in almost the same situation that the guard finds himself in during the offseason.

For Conley, he is looking for something that most pitching teams will likely show him – future plans that involve winning. That could likely include the team's path towards a possible NBA title.

Once those are answered, Conley will likely opt to stay in Memphis, rather than start anew with another team. Head coach Dave Joerger is confident that his star guard will stay on like what Gasol did last summer.

As it stands now, it all depends on the moves and tweaks that the Grizzlies will be doing in the offseason. They have the tools to be a top contender and this year was simply filled with bad luck. Adding more wing players could help as well to make life easier for Conley, Gasol and the big men inside.
