The New England Patriots are preparing for a better run in the 2016 season and added another piece to their offensive arsenal, reaching an agreement with tight end Clay Harbor.

Harbor spent the past three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and last season, played 15 games (three starts), having 14 receptions for 149 yards and one touchdown. He entered the National Football League (NFL) as the Philadelphia Eagles' fourth-round pick (125th overall) in the 2010 NFL Draft. Harbor spent his first three seasons with the Eagles before getting released and heading to Jacksonville.

In Harbor's entire NFL career, he played in 83 regular season games (36 starts), having 111 receptions for 1,151 yards and eight touchdowns.

Since turning pro, the former Missouri State Bear has been a backup and that role is expected to be retained with the Pats, who have great depth at the tight end position. But that may change once he impresses the coaching staff in the upcoming organized team activities (OTAs) and training camp.

Harbor joins Rob Gronkowski, Martellus Bennett (also signed as a free agent this off-season), Michael Williams, and AJ Derby as a tight end for New England.

Acquiring Harbor might be precautionary for the Patriots after the injury bug troubled them in the 2015 season. Key offensive contributors like Gronkowski, wide receiver Julian Edelman, and running back Dion Lewis all went down in the previous campaign.

As the free agency period continues and the NFL Draft approaches, New England might seek for a few more additions, both on offense and defense, to have various options when the time for roster trimming arrives.

The Patriots aim to bounce back after failing to defend the championship they won at Super Bowl XLIX during the 2014 season.

Despite the health setbacks, the Pats finished on top of the American Football Conference (AFC) East in the 2015 season with a 12-4 record. They made it to the conference championship but lost to eventual champs, the Denver Broncos.
