The New England Patriots are working this off-season and recently added another offensive piece in running back Donald Brown, a move which San Diego Chargers team president John Spanos calls a "perfect signing."

Last season, Brown played his second year with the Chargers and in 10 games (two starts) , tallied 59 carries (career-low) for 229 yards and one touchdown. Overall, it was an unimpressive season for Brown who was released by the Chargers on March 3.

It did not take long for Brown to find a new home as the New England Patriots gave him another shot and on March 16, signed him to a one-year deal that will earn him $965,000, with a guaranteed $300,000. Because of Brown's declining performance when he was still in San Diego, the Patriots acquiring him went under the radar.

However, Spanos was well aware of the recent transaction and had some good words regarding the deal.

"He is such a perfect Patriots signing," Spanos said Saturday about Brown heading to New England according to CSN New England

"I would bet anything he's going to be a productive player for them," Spanos added.

In Brown's entire National Football League (NFL) career, playing five seasons for the Indianapolis Colts and two for the Chargers, he saw action in a total of 89 games, having 695 carries for 2,829 yards and 18 touchdowns.

The signing of the 28-year-old former first-round pick is unlikely the last for the revamping Patriots. Last season, the Pats failed to defend their title as they were plagued by injuries especially to key offensive players like tight end Rob Gronkowski, wide receiver Julian Edelman, and running back Dion Lewis.

Despite all the setbacks, New England managed to be the  American Football Conference (AFC) East champions and finished second in the conference entering the playoffs. The Patriots reached the AFC Championship Game but fell to eventual Super Bowl champs, the Denver Broncos.
