Pro Bowl defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson is going to stay with the New York Jets for a few more seasons after finally getting his desired long-term deal which is for five years.

According to a report by ESPN, Wilkerson's new pact is worth $86 million, which has a guaranteed $36.75 million when he signs it, plus a signing bonus of  a $15 million. It was also stated that it has a $53.5 million injury guarantee.

Each year of the deal, Wilkerson is likely to earn $17.2 million which is the highest in team history, ESPN also mentioned.

Similar with the Denver Broncos and linebacker Von Miller, Wilkerson and the Jets had trouble negotiating a new deal.

Wilkerson protested to this by not attending and participating in the Jets' previous off-season preparations.

But last week, the Jets presented a five-year deal offer through e-mail and that resumed the contract discussion between both sides. Before the deadline Friday, Wilkerson and the team reached an agreement.

The 2015 season is so far one of the best for Wilkerson. In 16 games (all starts), he recorded 64 tackles, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles, seven pass deflections, and five stuffs. The sack and pass defended tallies are career-bests for the 26-year-old.

Because of Wilkerson's splendid performance during New York's previous campaign, he was selected to his first ever Pro Bowl.

It was expected that the Jets were ready to do everything to give what Wilkerson wanted. Since they selected him 30th overall in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) draft, he is a key piece on defense and is a starter.

Currently, Wilkerson is undergoing rehabilitation following a surgery for a right leg injury suffered earlier this year. There is no reported setback regarding his recovery so he will likely be ready to be back on the field weeks before the 2016 season opens in September.
