Free agent quarterback Robert Griffin III parted ways with the Washington Redskins after four seasons, but it might not take long for him to find a new team as the New York Jets met with him during the weekend.

Griffin entered the National Football League (NFL) with so much hype and during his rookie year backed that up as he was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in the 2012 season.

However, it was just a downhill slope for Griffin after that and in the Redskins' previous campaign, he was pushed third in the depth chart and did not see action in all games.

Because of everything that transpired, the Redskins decided to release Griffin earlier this month which gives him the chance to explore free agency.

The 26-year-old quarterback began the process by meeting with the Jets, who are dealing with a quarterback issue involving last season's starter Ryan Fitzpatrick, ESPN reported.

According to the report, Griffin also had dinner with Jets head coach Todd Bowles during his visit to the Big Apple.

In Griffin's career with the Redskins, he played in a total of 37 regular season games, completing 679-of-1,063 passes for 8,097 yards and 40 touchdowns, also throwing 23 interceptions.

But before the Jets can sign Griffin to any deal, they must first address the contract issue they are having with Fitzpatrick.

Along with the interest they have in Griffin, the Jets also were reported to have a desire to trade for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Last season, the Jets, guided by Fitzpatrick, had a winning season ending second in the American Football Conference (AFC) East with a 10–6 record.

Unfortunately for the franchise, it was not enough to end a five-season playoff drought.

The last time the Jets reached the playoffs was in the 2010 season when they made it to the conference championship but lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
