Google has finally put an end to never-ending rumors of a new smartphone as it announced the pre-order release date of Nexus 6 by Motorola. The latest unit to comes out of the Nexus series sport killer specs that could actually rival that of the iPhone 6 models.

Google Nexus 6 boasts a 5.96-inch Quad HD screen display with 2560 x 1440 resolution, 13 MP rear-facing camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), 2 MP front-facing camera, 2.7 GHz, 3 GB RAM and the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 Quad CPU.

It also advocates "more using, less charging" mantra by getting up to 6 hours running time with only 15 minutes of charging.

Nexus 6 runs on Android Lollipop, the new mobile OS dubbed by Google as the "sweetest release yet." The newest flagship smartphone will receive Android Lollipop updates first, with a promise that owners will get the "best of Google and Android."

Apart from a sleek design, the smartphone also highlights functionality giving users the ability to multitask seamlessly.

The giant phablet looks like a bigger Moto X, which is not a shock considering that both hail from the Motorola turf. This move signals that Google is directly competing against Apple's high-end consumers.

Earlier this year, rumors claimed that the Mountain View-based tech titan was going to terminate the Nexus brand. However, Google needs a formidable offering to help keep Apple from dominating the mobile realm again, especially with the ailing Samsung.

Google Nexus 6 has a price tag of $649, and pre-order of the handset kicks off on Oct. 29.

No final retail release date is confirmed as of press time.
