With the Nexus 6P, Google has signaled that it is interested in providing users with a premium offering that has a midrange price. Here is how the phablet from Google, which is manufactured by Huawei, compares with the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, the first device with a 4K display.

Design

In terms of design, the Nexus 6P actually turns out to be the sturdier option as it has a full metal body created from aluminum and its only point of vulnerability is a small glass panel that is present at its rear over the camera. It has rounded corners and there is a fingerprint scanner at the back. As for colors, there are three options available: frost, aluminum, and graphite.

Compared to this, the Xperia Z5 Premium has a metal frame but its front and back are covered with glass with a glossy finish. It, too, has a fingerprint scanner but it is positioned at the side and integrated with a bigger power button. The body of the device comes in three colors: gold, chrome, and black. Finally, the device is waterproof with an IP68 rating but cannot be submerged in water.

Display

There is a 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen on the Z5 Premium and it has a resolution of 2160 x 3840 pixels and density of 806 pixels per inch, which is unbeatable. Additionally it has Triluminos color enhancing technology and the X-Reality Engine to upscale the quality of images and videos.

As for the Nexus 6P, it has a slightly bigger AMOLED screen measuring 5.7 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and density of 518 pixels per inch.

Specs

There is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset in the Z5 Premium coupled with an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz along with an Adreno 430 GPU. The Nexus 6P also has the same chipset and so these two devices are similar when it comes to speed.

Memory

When it comes to memory slots, the Xperia Z5 Premium has the edge as its slot supports up to 200 GB of external storage while the Nexus 6P does not have a slot. As for RAM, each of these devices has 3 GB on board.

Camera

The 12 megapixel camera on the Nexus 6P cannot keep up with the 23-megapixel camera on the Xperia Z5 Premium, which is faster and takes better quality images and video.

Price

When it comes to price, however, the Nexus 6P is well ahead as it costs $500 unlocked, while the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium could cost around $975 unlocked.
