Media reports of LG making the transition from a plastic body to an all-metal one for all its future devices has sparked off speculations that Google's new Nexus device could also come with a metal body. After using plastic for its handset body, Samsung finally introduced a metallic casing in its premium devices, thus kicking off a trend that other OEMs are likely to follow.

Recent reports in the South Korean media had indicated that Google could choose LG to build the next-gen Nexus 7 smartphone in 2015. Google has earlier partnered with LG for building the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, but had tied up with Motorola for the new Nexus 6. Apparently, LG is working together with Google on an "N000″ device, which will ultimately be sold as the Nexus 7 sometime this year.

Speculations that LG would build the Nexus 7 this year became even stronger after executives from Google were spotted making visits to various company locations, such as LG Display and its facilities for manufacturing smartphone components, like wireless charging modules and cameras with optical image stabilization.

LG is rumored to be making the transition from a plastic body to an all-metal one for all its future devices by switching to newer computer precision control (CNCs) for making its own metal cases. In fact, the company is expected to bring out a phablet dubbed the G4 Note with a metal body, making it the first metal flagship device to be launched by the company.

Based on the speculation that Google will partner with LG to build the Nexus 7 this year and the South Korean consumer electronics giant's transition from using a plastic body to an all-metal one for its future handsets, it is now rumored that the Nexus 2015 smartphone will also be wrapped in metal.

There appears to be some truth to this rumor, as the Nexus 7 will be competing with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus with a metallic body, which is likely to continue with their successors, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, as well as with Samsung's Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy Edge that have been built using a fusion of metal and glass materials.
