NFL trade, draft news 2016: Ryan Fitzpatrick contract unlikely settled before NFL draft

Ryan Fitzpatrick may have to wait after the NFL draft to figure out his next career move as he and the New York Jets continue to hold out on any possible deals.

A reason behind that may be because the Jets don't see Fitzpatrick as part of the future of the ballclub. Fitzpatrick is seeking to be paid in the proper manner that starting quarterbacks are due but all that could depend on how the NFL draft turns out for the Jets.

Adding more color to the whole matter is the fact that no other NFL club has pitched to Fitzpatrick, meaning the Jets could buy their time and wait to see if they can get a young and promising quarterback in his place.

With that in the air, the Jets are currently hosting Brian Hoyer, who is reportedly being considered as an option to Fitzpatrick's slot. The free agent quarterback flew in to Florham Park, New Jersey where he starts his overnight visit.

With Hoyer and the NFL draft possible sources of new (starting) quarterbacks for the Jets, one thing going for Fitzpatrick is his impact in the locker room.

Jets players like Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall sent a video message to Fitzpatrick, saying that they want him back in what could be a clear indication that harmony within the team could be better with the 33-year-old being retained as the team' s starting quarterback.

Before the impasse, the Jets had dangled Fitzpatrick a $3.25 million raise from the salary he received last year. Fitzpatrick is however seeking something bigger with a multiyear deal, which the Jets are seemingly not too keen to oblige.

The Jets' offseason has started, mostly focusing on conditioning with Fitzpatrick obviously not around. Also, the NFL draft is about 10 days away. If the Jets plan to keep Fitzpatrick, anything tied up to that will likely take shape after the draft.
