NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet Android 6.0 update hits some hurdles as it's put on hold

The rollout of Android 6.0 Marshmallow has been progressing slowly at best, and when it comes to the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet, it appears to have run into a roadblock. This particular roadblock resulted in the Android Marshmallow update being halted and there is no word when it will resume.

Reporting on Android 6.0 Marshmallow arriving on the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet, Android Police states that users who installed the update noticed that Wi-Fi connectivity was severely affected. Following the problem with Wi-Fi connectivity being reported by many users, NVIDIA quickly put the update for the SHIELD tablet on hold.

Importantly, NVIDIA did not face any issues when it upgraded the SHIELD K1 variant tablet to Android Marshmallow and the company seems to have taken this into consideration when it rolled out the update to the NVIDIA SHIELD. However, users who did go ahead and install the 4.0 update stated that as soon as they tried to turn the tablet on,they noticed that they had no Wi-Fi connection.

Since the NVIDIA SHIELD tablet is also sold with Wi-Fi only connectivity, users were left fuming when it could no longer be turned on. This led to several disgruntled users taking to forums to discuss the problem and describing how the update was automatically resetting the MAC address to 02:00:00:00:00:00:00. This led to NVIDIA stating that users could fix the problem by restarting the tablet; however, this was quickly labeled as wishful thinking.

Others, meanwhile, have stated on forums that the problem with the update can be resolved by resetting the tablet to its factory settings. This led NVIDIA to stop the rollout of the update and it appears that it will only proceed once the problem has been identified and fixed, and once it is in place, users will not have to resort to factory reset to use their device. Until then, users have been advised to hold off on installing the update and wait for further instructions about it from NVIDIA.
