NYC schools closed, flight cancellations, delays expected at airports as blizzard warning in place for historic Winter Storm Juno

A blizzard warning is in place in New York City and Southern New York State  that is set to hit from late Monday into Tuesday.

The blizzard warning is in effect from 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26 to midnight Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Areas affected will be New York City, Long Island and southern Connecticut as heavy snow and strong winds are expected to blow. Up to 30 inches of snow is expected with wind gusts ranging from 30 mph to 65mph.

With the impending weather, NYC mayor has warned residents to be "prepared for the worst."

The New York City Department of Education posted a weather advisory for public schools across  the city. "On Monday, January 26, based on the expected storm, all after-school programs, PSAL, and evening adult education programs will be canceled. School field trips and PD for teachers will also be canceled.

"Schools will be open on Monday for the regular school day. Schools will also administer Regents exams as scheduled. "

With the heavy snowfall, roads are expected to be treacherous and slippery.  The storm has been dubbed 'Winter Storm Juno. Latest updates from the Weather Channel cane be seen here.

28 people are under the blizzrd warnings and residents are being told to prepare for the historic winter storm by changing travel plans and stocking up on supplies.

Flight cancellations and major delays are expected at airports.
