Oklahoma City Thunder free agency, trade rumors 2016: OKC remains best choice for Blake Griffin in 2017

(Reuters/Thomas B. Shea/USA TODAY Sports)A number of teams are eyeing Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin.

The Oklahoma City Thunder may not wait too long before they can have another All-Star duo that will again make them a powerhouse in the Western Conference, as they remain favorites to land Blake Griffin next year.

Earlier in the off-season, Griffin was linked to the Thunder because of two reasons - the first one is the departure of Kevin Durant this free agency, and the second is because he is from the city.

In 2017, Griffin can be a free agent and many are expecting him to stay with the Los Angeles Clippers. However, others also see him leaving Lob City to play for a different organization, with Oklahoma City on top of the list as a potential destination.

In a report by Yibada.com, three factors were listed as to why Griffin might select the Thunder over the Clippers.

These are Thunder All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook, the bench of the Clippers, and his current squad's uncertain future.

One of the reasons why Griffin is believed to be parting ways with the Clippers is his rumored rift with Chris Paul.

In Oklahoma City, Griffin can put all that in the past, start anew, and play alongisde an elite playmaker in Westbrook who is arguably better than "CP3."

Besides this, with the Thunder, Griffin may fulfill the role of a star player but also have more rest, unlike in Los Angeles where he is loaded because the team relies heavily on him due to its seemingly lackluster second unit.

Perhaps the biggest factor that can affect Griffin's career decision is the Clippers' future. Next year, there are a number of players, including him and Paul, who might leave the franchise. He certainly will not be staying if the key pieces that made Los Angeles successful in the past few years decide to leave.

As of the moment, Griffin is a Clipper and his team is considered as a top contender not just in the West but in the entire league.
