'Outlander' season 2 episode 7 spoilers: Claire faces a heartbreak

(Starz)

In the last episode of "Outlander," Jamie (Sam Heughan) went back on his promise to Claire (Caitriona Balfe) not to kill Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) until he was able to father a child with Mary Hawkins (Rosie Day). Jamie's action has dire consequences that will cost a very big heartbreak for Claire in the next episode.

Even though there was no clear explanation why Jamie broke his promise, Claire found herself watching the two men duel, with the possibility that one of her husbands might die. The thought gave her so much stress, causing her to bleed and endangering the child she was carrying.

Matt Roberts, writer of that "Outlander" episode, revealed in an interview on The Hollywood Reporter that it is going to be an emotional journey for Claire. He revealed that Claire will be in a foggy, dream-like state going to the hospital where she will discover that something is wrong with the child inside her.

"There's a lot that will take things to a new place for the fans, even the ones who have read the books. We've been trying to do things just a little bit differently from the books in each episode even though the main, expected events still happen so there's an element of surprise for everyone," he added.

Aside from the heartbreak, Roberts also revealed that the next episode will explain why Jamie broke his promise to Claire and it has something to do with Fergus. He mentioned that if viewers paid attention, there were already hints in the previous episode of what could have led Jamie to engage in a duel with Black Jack.

He also discussed that the coming episodes will explain how Claire was able to get back to the present day as shown in episode 1.

"Outlander" airs every Saturday at 9 p.m. EST on Starz.
