'Overwatch' rumors: cross-platform play could still be an added feature

Cross-platform play between different consoles may not be a feature that gamers are able to enjoy right now, but things could be changing soon, and the shift to more intermingling among the consoles may be spurred on by none other than the massively popular first-person shooting game "Overwatch."

Chatter about cross-platform play possibly becoming one of the offerings of the recently released game began to pick up steam over the weekend.

Recently, a fan going by "@bickiya" on Twitter posed a question to "Overwatch's" official Twitter account, wondering if the game will ever feature cross-platform play.

In response, the game's official Twitter account replied that there wasn't any before also indicating that developers will "keep an eye on cross-platform possibilities on the consoles."

The same fan then asked another question, this time wondering if there might be a chance that PS4 players will be able to take on their counterparts who prefer the PC platform.

The game's official Twitter account replied to this query as well, indicating that they have no plans for PS4-PC cross-platform play, with the reason being that adding such a feature may bring up competitive balance issues that stem from the different controllers that players will use.

While it doesn't seem like PC players will get to play with anyone on the other platforms, it does seem as though cross-platform play being implemented for consoles is still within the realm of possibility.

Considering the popularity of "Overwatch," adding cross-platform play would seem to be a move that can greatly benefit Blizzard, as it may entice even more gamers who have thus far held off on purchasing the new title to try it out now, knowing that the player pool is even deeper than before.

More news about "Overwatch" and any of the features that it may add should be made available in the future.
