'Persona 5' updates: Atlus confirms game is still on track for a 2015 release

Persona 5 was first announced in 2013 and was slated for an initial winter 2014 release. Atlus, the company behind the game, assured fans that "Persona 5" would have a 2015 release. Unfortunately, no exact date has been confirmed.

Atlus USA's PR Manager, John Hardin, noted that the company has already mapped out a release date but it did not want to make any more premature announcements. "It's one of our biggest titles. We have to treat it with delicacy and care." Therefore, "the only thing I can confirm for Persona 5 is 2015," he said.

Last June, Atlus finally revealed its first gameplay trailer during the Persona Super Live 2015. They also released an image of a student, presumably the main protagonist, who held a sign with the words "Let us score the game."

The game's director, Katsura Hashino, acknowledges the massive support but does feel some pressure due to people's high expectations over the game. The company released the trailer in order to assure fans that the production was still going forward, regardless of the delays.

The upcoming Japanese role-playing game is said to focus on the different personal lives of delinquent students.

Delving into the mood of the game, "I feel that in today's world, there's no shortage of people that are bored and discontent with their lives. Persona is about freedom, the kind that those sorts of people haven't had living in the real world. I want [players] to be able to attain that sensation by playing through the game... I'd say that the image depicts the wait that must be endured for that moment of freedom to arrive," Hashino said.

The characters in the game are said to have their own personal burdens that they are trying to overcome.

The game's illustrator, Shinegori Soejima, also says that "Persona 5" will be more stylish, with a glaring color of red at the center of the game. "It took a lot of trial-and-error to get right, but we've ended up with a style that we feel works well within the confines of the Persona series," added Hashino.

Additionally, the game's soundtrack will also infuse acid-jazz like elements to further bring out the mood.

Atlus will also be using a new internal engine to ensure a smoother gameplay. Previous games from Atlus utilized third-party engines. The development of the company's own internal engine may have contributed to the delay of "Persona 5's" release.

"Persona 5" is still slated for a 2015 Japan and North America release. It will be made available for the PS3 and PS4 consoles.
