All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins may have passed the torch to Omri Casspi as the forward is now the Sacramento Kings player linked to numerous teams in the NBA. A new suggestion is for him to join the struggling Philadelphia 76ers.

In the proposed swap, the 76ers are letting go of T.J. McConnell in order to acquire Casspi.

Casspi will be a good acquisition for the 76ers if they pursue him and succeed. He is an efficient bench addition because of his ability to score. The 28-year-old is also adding depth at small forward, which is currently manned by starter Robert Covington and his backup Hollis Thompson.

Experience and veteran leadership are also something Casspi can contribute when he heads to Philly.

McConnell is someone who might get the Kings' approval. He is young at only 24 years old and is a point guard, the kind of player they are seeking for since the off-season.

However, there are a few reasons why this exchange might be rebuffed by the 76ers.

First is the logjam Philadelphia has in its group of frontcourt players. Casspi would be a useful addition but his arrival could give head coach Brett Brown more problems when it comes to rotating his big men.

The other reason is that the 76ers is a team that must improve its backcourt and losing a point guard does not aid this cause.

Indeed, when McConnell leaves, the 76ers still have veterans Sergio Rodríguez and Jerryd Bayless to handle the duties at the no. 1 position. But when one of them gets hurt, they will have a new problem since it is a must to look for another playmaker.

Having three point guards ensures that when one of them goes down due to an injury, there are two remaining who can step up.
