'Pokemon Go' tips, tricks: What to know before getting started

"Pokemon Go" is the game on the minds of many people at the moment, and while many folks have already gotten their journeys started, there are those who are still getting ready for it.

Before diving headfirst into the recently released augmented reality (AR) game, there are some things players need to know in order to ensure that they get the most out of their experiences.

First off, players need to know about the things they should avoid doing while playing game.

Niantic has listed the trainer guidelines for the game over on their website, and players would be well-advised to heed these rules as failure to follow them may lead to their accounts being suspended, or worse, being terminated.

Most of the guidelines are just common sense tips that ensure that everyone can have fun playing "Pokemon Go," but there's also a section devoted to cheating.

Specifically, Niantic has indicated that actions such as operating multiple accounts, utilizing unofficial software and even using tools that falsify a player's location are equivalent to cheating inside the game and must be avoided.

Now that players understand what they are not supposed to do, they can proceed to enjoying the game itself, though they should probably make sure their phones are fully charged or as close to it as possible before doing so since "Pokemon Go" is currently quite the voracious battery-drainer at this point.

What makes many Pokemon games so enjoyable is obviously interacting, capturing and battling with the creatures themselves, and in order to do that inside this AR title, players are advised to do two things.

First, players will need to walk around a bit. The game rewards players for exploring and it's up to them to see what kinds of Pokemon are lurking within their immediate surroundings. Oh, and players really do need to walk around, as riding around in cars isn't the best way to spot different types of Pokemon.

Players are also advised to go to crowded places, as that's where many types of Pokemon tend to hang out in. Plus, those crowded areas may also yield some valuable items that can aid players as they continue to make progress.
