Rev. Gary Hall Named Dean of Washington National Cathedral

The Rev. Gary R. Hall has been named as the tenth dean of the Washington National Cathedral.

The Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation Board of Trustees, which oversees the Cathedral, is expected to approve the nomination on August 17, according to a statement by the National Cathedral.

He replaces The Rev. Dr. Francis H. Wade who served as interim dean on a part-time basis since January.

Rev. Hall, who is currently rector of Christ Church Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., will start at the National Cathedral on Oct. 1.

Rev. Hall's most recent position from 2005 to 2010 was as dean and president of Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill.

Among his academic credentials is a Ph.D. in English in 1989 from UCLA and an M.Div degree from Episcopal Divinity School at Cambridge, Mass. In 1976.
