Samsung, the Korean smartphone manufacturer, has been tasting a lot of success with its curved screen devices. This trend was again followed this year, perhaps since the Galaxy S7 Edge devices sold well. Now, attention has been turning to Samsung's oft-rumored foldable smartphone that has been rumored since 2014.

The rumors about a foldable smartphone from Samsung have been doing the rounds for years now, but the device has remained elusive. This has left many people doubting whether it exists or not, but according to the latest rumors, Samsung is still refining its design. This development stage is said to ensure it is a worthy successor to the Galaxy S7 Edge, and there are plans of a release sometime early 2017. Moreover, reports say that the foldable device will have a 5-inch display, placing it squarely in the smartphone category, and once it is unfolded, it will transform into a tablet with a 7-inch display.

Importantly, Samsung is one of the few companies that has expertise in manufacturing OLED display, which is an essential component of a foldable smartphone. This will likely give the company an edge when it comes to designing and manufacturing a foldable smartphone. However, there are several other components of a smartphone that need to be considered, but it looks like Samsung has already managed to iron out all the problems that a foldable device has. Also, it appears that it has acquired the necessary technologies from other firms and is well on its way to creating the foldable smartphone.

Rumors of a foldable smartphone first arrived in 2014, and last year, it was reportedly pushed to an early 2016 release. However, now that we have entered the second quarter of 2016, there are indications that its launch is moved to next year.

More news and updates should arrive on Samsung's foldable smartphone.
