Samsung Galaxy J7, Galaxy J5 features, rumors and release date: mid-range smartphones and key specs appear on TENAA

Recent media reports had suggested that Samsung is working on two new devices that will be added to its Galaxy J series, the Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7. After news of the Galaxy J5 Dual SIM and Galaxy J7 receiving Bluetooth certification towards the end of April, the Galaxy J5 and J7 variants have now been spotted on the website of the Chinese certification authority TENAA.

In February this year, Samsung had launched the Galaxy J1 which is currently the only official handset in the Galaxy J series. The Galaxy J1 is a low-end device with a 4.3-inch display, 512MB RAM and a 5 megapixel rear camera. According to earlier media reports, Samsung plans to expand its Galaxy J line-up with the addition of two new two mid-range handsets, called the Galaxy J5 and the Galaxy J7.

Both the devices have now been spotted on Chinese telecom regulator TENAA's database, revealing their key specifications. The Galaxy J5 (model number SM-J500F) sports a 5-inch HD screen and is powered by a 1.2GHz octa-core processor, along with 1.5GB RAM and 16GB of onboard storage (expandable up to 64GB via microSD card). The Galaxy J5 sports an 8-megapixel rear camera (CMOS sensor) along with a 5-megapixel front shooter and a 2,600 mAh battery, and runs Android 5.0.2 Lollipop pre-installed with Samsung's TouchWiz UI slapped on top.

On the other hand, the Galaxy J7 (model number SM-J700F) features a larger 5.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) TFT panel and is powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core processor, paired with 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (expandable up to 64GB via microSD card), a 13MP camera for photos and videos, 5MP front-facing camera, a 3,000 mAh battery and will ship with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. Given their fairly unimpressive specs, the new Galaxy J handsets are likely to be affordable, though no price indications are available as yet.
