Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs. LG G4: G4 wins on the hardware front against the Note 4's stylus and fingerprint scanner

Among premium phablets, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the LG G4 are two of the leaders in the market. Here is how the curved handset with a leather back panel compares to the Note 4 which comes with a stylus.

Design

Looking at the LG G4, it is clear that it is designed to impress as it has an elegant but subtle "SlimArc" curve that extends over its body which is made of plastic. Its back panel has patterned polycarbonate in three colors: gold, grey and white with a ceramic paint. However, there there are also other leather panels available dyed in natural colors which can be bought and swapped out.

As for the Note 4, it has some metal in the form of a sturdy frame but the rest of its body is made of plastic. Its back panel has a layer of faux leather. It also has an S Pen Stylus which can be used to draw and write accurately on the screen, as well as a swipe-based fingerprint scanner — a feature not present on the LG G4.

Display

The display on the Note 4 is a little bigger but is similar to the version on the LG G4 when it comes to sharpness. The Note 4 consists of a super AMOLED screen measuring 5.7 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 515 pixels per inch while the LG G4 has an IPS LCD screen measuring 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 538 pixels per inch.

Specs

In this category, the LG G4 is ahead as it was released this year. It comes with better hardware in the form of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset, a hexa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.44 GHz and two Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 1.82 GHz along with an Adreno 418 GPU. The Note 4 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, a Krait 450 CPU with four cores clocked at 2.7 GHz and an Adreno 420 GPU.

Memory

Both devices have memory slots which allow for the addition of up to 128 GB of external storage. Both also have 3 GB RAM.

Camera

Each device has a 16 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization.

Price

The Note 4 is more expensive than the LG G4. It costs $299 with a two-year contract while the LG G4 costs $199 with a similar contract.
