Samsung Galaxy Note 5 release date: Qualcomm replaced by own chipset;'Galaxy Note 5' due this fall

The next iteration of Samsung's highly-regarded Galaxy Note series the 'Galaxy Note 5' has yet to be officially confirmed, but consumers are no doubt looking forward to the expected bump in technical specs that such a device will bring. Consumers looking for updates on what improvements the 'Galaxy Note 5' may contain should look no further than the recently released 'Galaxy S6' smart phone.

Samsung's flagship device was released late last week and has thus far received positive reviews from early reviewers. While the device received its fair share of criticism, for instance with regards to reduced functionality, the 'Galaxy S6' was praised for its higher quality design. Samsung will no doubt look at the Galaxy S6' to see what improvements can be added to the upcoming 'Galaxy Note 5'.

Still, recent information coming out from Samsung indicates that the company might be in the process of a big change with regards to their mobile devices. As reported in this article at The Motley Fool, Samsung has opted to use its own technology for its current wireless chipsets rather than with their frequent partner Qualcomm.

Samsung executive J.K. Shin indicated that the company wants to keep their technology as up to date as possible. "We have to use the best engines to make our products competitive, which is why we opted to use our own chips," he said. Shin added that the company may still partner with Qualcomm in the future, but he declined from providing additional details.

In any case, the release date of a 'Galaxy Note 5' should be later in the year, if past trends continue. Samsung has traditionally released its 'Galaxy' smart phones during spring, while the 'Galaxy Note' phablets are released during the fall season. For now, Samsung's full attention appears to be with the 'Galaxy S6' and ensuring a successful launch for its flagship device.
