Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge update: 'Iron Man' edition releasing soon for 'Avengers' fans

(KOREA TIMES)

As part of its global marketing campaign with Marvel, Korean mobile maker Samsung is rumored to be working on an "Iron Man" edition of its latest flagship smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Samsung, which has teamed up with Marvel Studios to promote the release of "Avengers: Age of Ultron", will also release more "Avengers"-themed devices in the future.

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" is the eleventh film in Marvel Cinematic Universe and a direct sequel to "The Avengers", which was released in 2012 and is the third highest-grossing film of all-time. Fresh Korean media reports claim that Samsung executives who attended the screening of "Avengers: Age of Ultron" were excited at the transparent handheld displays used by the characters in the movies and were featured in the earlier "Iron Man" films. Samsung now plans to release "Avengers"-themed devices, starting with 'Iron Man' edition of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

Samsung has been teasing its next-generation transparent and bendable displays for a long time now and had presented its transparent-screen phones, tablets and other Hollywood-ized bits of tech at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. According to new Korean media reports, the head of marketing for Samsung's mobile division, Lee Young-hee, announced to the press during the Seoul premiere of Age of Ultron that the company would launch "Iron Man" phones in the coming weeks.

Lee Young-hee confirmed that "Samsung is prepping up to rollout the Iron Man edition of the S6 Edge, which will be in red." Renders of the "Iron Man" edition of the rumored Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge were also leaked in the Korea media. The special edition smartphones are expected to be launched as early as this month, though Samsung has not made any official announcements. More "Avengers"-themed devices are also reportedly in the works, with Samsung expected to come up with Hulk and Captain America edition of its flagship smartphones.
