Samsung Galaxy S8 specs rumors, leaks: 3.5-mm headphone jack absent; Harman stereo speakers on board?

(Samsung)The Samsung Galaxy S8, the follow-up to the Galaxy S7 (pictured), will reportedly have Harman stereo speakers and do away with the 3.5-mm headphone jack.

If reports are to be believed, then Samsung has a world of surprises for fans when it officially unveils the Galaxy S8 in February. The upcoming smartphone is apparently making a few changes in the audio department — opting to integrate the device with stereo speakers and doing away with the standard headphone jack.

Samsung has undoubtedly been under a lot of pressure ever since the Galaxy Note 7 scandal that involved exploding batteries. And it looks like the South Korean tech giant is taking things up a notch when it comes to the audio features of the upcoming Galaxy S8.

According to SamMobile, Samsung is apparently going to remove the 3.5-mm headphone jack altogether and may be opting for the USB Type-C port instead. Apple was the first to ditch the headphone jack with the iPhone 7, and it was controversial to say the least. But it did allow the Cupertino-based tech company to make the iPhone 7 much thinner. It's possible that Samsung is also going in this direction, desiring a much slimmer build for the phone. It has also been noted that removing the headphone jack will allow for a better and bigger battery under the hood.

As for the stereo speakers, Samsung recently bought Harman for $8 billion. This means that it's possible for the upcoming Galaxy S8 to have Harman speakers on board. However, as GSMArena reports, a representative from Samsung previously stated that Harman technology will not make it to the Galaxy brand until 2018.

Apart from that, Samsung is also reportedly going to integrate automatic focus into the front-facing camera of the Galaxy S8. In this current world of selfies, improving the front snapper is definitely a wise move and will prove to be an attractive feature for buyers.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S8 in February 2017 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. The smartphones should be released not long after that.
