Samsung eases its way back into the tablet market as it unveils two new tablets which will hit stores next month.

The latest in the Samsung Galaxy Tab series will be available in stores this August 4 — at least in Hong Kong and Taiwan. The Galaxy Tab S2 comes in two sizes, 8.0 and 9.7 inches. Both are really thin at only 5.6 mm and can even compete as the lightest tablet in the market.

The 8-inch model will scale in at 272 grams for the 4G version and 265 grams for WiFi only while the 9.7-inch model with 4G and WiFi weights 392 grams and 389 grams, respectively.

Both tablets will sport an 8-megapixel rear camera with the front-facing camera having 2.1 megapixels. Inside, the two models are identical. They boast of an Exynos 5433 processor and a 3GB RAM LPDDR3 memory.

They have two variants, one with 32 GB internal storage and another with 64 GB internal storage. Both come with memory card slots which can be used to add up to 128 GB of external storage via microSD. Screen will be at a competitive 2560 x 1600 to 2048 x 1536 Super AMOLED resolution.

Both the 8-inch and 9.7-inch models will have a native Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. Connectivity will be via industry standards, 11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1, with options to insert a micro USB. And as mentioned, there will also be optional LTE via the LTE models.

Pricing of the new Samsung tablets are pegged at $398 and $527 for the WiFi-only and LTE versions, respectively, for the 8-inch model and at $501 and $630 for the 9.7-inch model. Initial colors available are black and white for all models but gold-colored Galaxy Tab S2s are coming in mid-August for WiFi models and around the latter part of August for LTE versions.

The release date mentioned is only for Taiwan and Hong Kong markets. However, Samsung said that the Galaxy Tab S2 will be available worldwide, so stay tuned for further updates on when it will hit US and Europe.

Samsung Netherlands has already listed the said tablet and made it available for pre-order, though no definite release date has been posted yet.
