Barnes & Noble teams up with Samsung to manufacture its Nook tablets, as the book retailer concentrates on the device's software apps, reports said Thursday.

A Nook-branded Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 tablet will come in 7-inch display and Nook's digital reading software. It will be available online and in the 700 Barnes & Noble U.S. retail stores in August.

The New York-based bookstore in recent years invested in an e-book library and an e-book reader. Recently, it released a new non-tablet reader.

However, the company struggles to stay competitive against giants like Apple and Amazon and has started to evaluate its tablet business. Currently, it ended up seeking a hardware partner and spins off its tablet manufacturing unit.

CEO Michael Huseby of Barnes & Noble said they are creating ways to pack digital and physical content and dubbed the digital side as important to their mission.

The company's latest quarter carried a profit after cutting costs, and their Nook unit and other enterprises helped offset the declining revenue of the entire business.

By July, the company's Nook offices in Palto Alto, Cali., will have their employees moved to nearby Santa Clara and smaller spaces. The move will save Barnes & Noble around $10 million yearly occupancy expenses, and future leases by about $102 million.

Huseby added that teaming with Samsung brings their clients to new great products and showing their commitment to NOOK customers and enhancing the digital content business.

Barnes & Noble shares went to $19.51 from 3.2 percent, having increased 26 percent this year.

Nook Glowlight e-readers will still be available at $99 with customer support.
