Samsung's flagship offering for the year is the Galaxy S6, but recently, an abundance of Chinese-made devices like the Redmi Note 3 have arrived to take it on. Here is how the metal-bodied device from Xiaomi compares to the redesigned S6.

Design

The Galaxy S6 was Samsung's attempt to redesign the lineup — the plastic body was replaced with a metal frame and a Gorilla Glass 4 back panel. As for the fingerprint scanner, it is positioned in the home button. The device comes in different colors: white, gold, blue and black. As for the Redmi Note 3, it has a metal unibody and rounded edges, and its design has a better look and feel even when compared to the polished Galaxy S6. It, too, has a fingerprint scanner but it is positioned at its rear instead of the front. And when it comes to colors, there are three options available: silver, gold and gray.

Display

In terms of display quality, the Galaxy S6 is way ahead as it has a Super AMOLED screen measuring 5.1 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 577 pixels per inch. As for the Redmi Note 3, it has a bigger IPS LCD screen measuring 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 403 pixels per inch.

Specs

The hardware on the Galaxy S6 consists of the latest Exynos 7420 chipset, and it is coupled with an octa-core CPU and a Mali-T760MP8 GPU. Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 3 has a Mediatek Helio X10 chipset coupled with an octa-core CPU and a PowerVR G6200 GPU.

Memory

There is no memory card slot on both these devices and so external storage cannot be tacked on. The version of the Redmi Note 3 with 16 GB of internal storage has 2 GB of RAM and its 32 GB version has 3 GB of RAM, while the Galaxy S6 has 3 GB of RAM.

Camera

When it comes to camera quality, the Galaxy S6 has a 16-megapixel camera with OIS, and it is similar to the camera on its sibling, the Galaxy S6 Edge, which was ranked second in quality by DxOMark. The Redmi Note 3, on the other hand, has a 13-megapixel camera.

Price

Price-wise, the Redmi Note 3 has the advantage as it has a relatively cheaper price of $140 unlocked, while the Galaxy S6 costs $199 with a two year contract.
