San Antonio Spurs trade rumors 2016: Tony Parker joining Cleveland Cavaliers to continue championship pursuit?

Another improbable swap is gathering steam and it involves the San Antonio Spurs giving up one of its superstars, Tony Parker, who is rumored to be joining the reigning champions Cleveland Cavaliers.

This started with reports stating that Parker is a little frustrated with the Spurs' past two campaigns which did not lead to a championship. It was also mentioned that the 34-year-old might continue his pursuit of a title by teaming up with LeBron James. The retirement of Tim Duncan this off-season was seen as a factor as well as to why he wants to leave San Antonio.

However, all of these are mere rumors and Parker is unlikely to have the desire to part ways with the Spurs. He began his National Basketball Association (NBA) career with them, achieved so much success and he is expected to end it with the franchise.

Perhaps the only reason why Parker was linked to the Cleveland Cavaliers was because of an issue earlier this year when it was thought that the latter was aiming to replace Kyrie Irving.

This circulated ahead of the 2016 playoffs, before Irving helped LeBron James and the Cavs to give Cleveland it's first NBA title.

For now, both Parker and Irving may be pleased with where they are and their current situations.

Parker will now be the leader for the Spurs together with Manu Ginobili, and they are again one of the favorites to win it all in the new season.

Meanwhile, Irving is coming off what could be his greatest outing so far in a young career. He bounced back from a terrible injury suffered in the 2015 NBA Finals and all his efforts were rewarded with a championship ring last season.

Maybe in the future, something might happen involving the two, but as of the moment, any deal which will see them leave their respective squads is far-fetched.
